After the disappointment of the no finish in the last round at Brands Hatch, Andy and the St Neots Motorcycle team headed to Oulton Park looking to get back on the podium.
Free practice proved that the Aprilia was back on form and Andy ended the day happy with progress ready for qualifying. The first session of qualifying went well ending the session as the second 125 but with room for improvement with the settings.
Session two wasn’t quite so successful as the changes made didn’t work as hoped so Andy dropped to qualifying fourth in the 125’s but confident of improvements for the race.
With new engine parts fitted for the morning warm up Andy had to run them in so only got one flying lap but was able to all but match his qualifying time so headed to the grid for the race confident of a good performance.
Andy was able to get a good start and was straight in to the thick of the action pulling through to be third in the 125’s with both riders in sight. The second lap of the race was Andy’s fastest of the weekend but on lap three a technical issue caused the bike to start misfiring. This limited the revs the bike could reach but with some clever riding and understanding of the issue Andy was able to maintain third place throughout the race.
This result maintains Andy’s second place in the standings as the series heads for a six week break, this will be used to work on the bike to ensure it is running to it’s full potential, using all the information gathered over the first three meetings. Some testing will also be carried out so that Andy and the team will head to their home round at Snetterton ready to push for the top step of the podium.
