Snetterton in Norfolk was the venue for rounds 5 and 6 of the British 125cc Motostar championship. Andy and the team spent a lot of time testing and developing the RSW 125 Aprilia over the six weeks since the last round at Oulton Park, this work paid off with a much improved and consistent motorcycle over the weekend.
Free practice and qualifying went well with gradual improvements to end up 4th 125cc on the grid for Saturday afternoons race. Race one started well and Andy was soon involved in a battle for the podium positions. The race was cut down to eight laps after an incident on the start line and after being passed aggressively on the one from last lap Andy was unable to get back on terms with the 2nd and 3rd place riders, ending the race in 4th place, only 1.5 seconds behind 2nd place.
More changes were made to the bike for morning warm up and they worked very well so confidence was high for a good result on Sunday. A good start saw Andy level with the leader heading to the Agostini hairpin on lap one but unfortunately Andy was unable to stop the Aprilia and overshot the corner. He was able to re-join the circuit in last place and set about over the remaning 11 laps catching as many of the riders that he could. With determined riding and his best laps of the weekend andy was able to climb to 4th place at the finish and in doing so maintain his second place in the standings.
The championship heads to Knockhill in Scotland for rounds 7 and 8 in two weeks time before moving to the faster flowing circuits in the second half of the season that will better suit Andy and the Aprilia.
