The long journey to Knockhill in Scotland for round 5 of the British Motostar Championship resulted in mixed fortunes for Andy and the team.
Weather played its part in proceedings with rain actually washing away part of the track on Friday evening, this left the organisers with no option but to reschedule the order of racing and qualifying, this left the Motostar class with just one session of Qualifying.
Andy has not visited the Knockhill circuit since 1999 so it took some time for him to adjust to the tight circuit and work on a set up for the bike to get the best from it but after qualifying he was able to post the third best time.
Race one was held in sunny and dry conditions and Andy soon established himself in second place after briefly leading in the early stages. Lap times from qualifying were bettered and in the final few laps he had to settle for a very safe second place and look forward to Sundays race.
The weather again played its part on Sunday as the rain started to fall on the sighting lap meaning the team had to change tyres on the grid for the race. Once the race was finally underway a race long fight for the podium places started. Andy was looking good and feeling confident of finishing on the podium but with two laps to go the bike suffered a mechanical issue that would see Andy retire on the last lap of the race.
Is was a frustrating end to what had been a good weekend for the team but third place in the championship was maintained heading to Brands Hatch for round 6 in a fortnights time.
