Round 6 of the British Motostar Championship was held on the longer Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch in kent.
After the disappointment of the retirement in the last round at Knockhill Andy was looking forward to riding on a circuit that much more suited the Aprilia machine.
Free practice and qualifying went well with Andy ending up third fastest 125 in right in touch with the two riders in front. The first race was held in very hot conditions, something that the team had not experienced so far with the Aprilia. The engine set up was not ideal and it made the bike hard to ride but Andy learned how to ride around the issues and fought through to fourth place heading on to the last lap. As is becoming normal there was a large pack of riders fighting for the positions in the 125 class and it all got a bit messy on the last lap at Stirlings corner, this resulted in Andy running off the track, another rider crashing and andy dropping to 7th at the finish.
Changes were made over night to the set up and morning warm up went well. Unfortunately due to Saturdays race result there was a lot of work to do as Andy had to start from deep on the grid. The first lap was not the best but after that Andy set about catching and picking off the riders in front of him, setting his best lap times of the weekend in the process. Again there was a big group of riders battling for the final podium position which made it hard for Andy to get through as riders were swapping places at nearly every corner. With two laps to go and Andy still confident of taking the final place on the podium one of the riders in the group crashed out, taking two more riders with them, luckily Andy was able to miss the bikes and riders but the accident brought out the red flags and and end to the race giving Andy 5th place.
Third place is maintained as the championship heads to one of Andy’s favourite circuits at Thruxton in Hampshire where Andy and the team will be looking for more podium finishes.
