Round Seven of the British Motostar Championship was held at Thruxton, the fast flowing circuit is one that Andy always looks forward to visiting. Practice and qualifying went well, settings were worked on through out and Andy qualified 2nd in the 125cc class for Saturdays race.
Andy was able to make a good start and quickly settled in to a rhythm on the fast turns of the fastest circuit in the country. Andy was second place at the end of the first lap in a large group of riders on both 125 and moto 3 machines. As the race developed Andy got stuck with two Moto 3 machines that he couldn’t clear, this let the 1st place rider escape in the next group so with a comfortable lead over third Andy settled on the last two laps to take another podium spot in Second place.
Some more changes were made to the bike for warm up on Sunday morning, these worked well and Andy ended the session in 3rd place, only 0.5sec of the fastest lap with only one flying lap as the team suffered a minimal technical issue that stopped the bike on the back of the circuit.
The Issue was quickly resolved in the paddock and the bike was ready for race 2. The air temperature was considerably warmer than the rest of the weekend by the time it came to race two so carburettor settings had to be considered to keep the Aprilia at its best. As the race started it was evident that the set up was not ideal causing the bike to be slow on the fast sections. This made it impossible to gain places so Andy had to work hard to maintain a 7th place finish. While this was very frustrating the points gained have moved Andy back in to 2nd overall in the Championship.
The series moves on to Cadwell Park next, a very different circuit but again another that Andy enjoys.
