The first round of the CRMC (Classic Racing Motorcycle Club) Post Classic GP 125 Championship was held at Pembrey in Wales. With last minute change of plans to compete in the championship Andy and the team were unable to test prior to the Friday practice day at the circuit. After some initial small issues the day ended well with a positive session to set Andy up for the first race on Saturday.
Saturday saw terrible conditions with high winds and rain lashing the circuit all day. Race one came as a storm swept through the circuit, Andy decided with his experience that it was best to sit the race out and wait for conditions to improve for race two in the afternoon rather than risk crashing and not scoring points in the other three races over the weekend.
Having not taken part in race one Andy had to start from the back of the grid for race two. With over thirty bikes on the grid Andy had to push through quickly in still tricky conditions and managed to finish sixth at the flag.
Sunday saw drier conditions but it was still very windy so you had to be careful not to get caught out. A second row start for race three of the weekend gave Andy a much better chance of a top three result. After an initially careful start Andy battled hard to finish third, only 0.1 seconds behind second place at the flag.
Race four saw Andy showing the speed that he has previously shown on the 125 Honda, taking second place, only missing the win by 0.9 seconds off the win, with the fastest lap of the race.
Round Two see’s the Championship travel to Croft in May, before that the team will test several times so as to arrive there at maximum performance and start pushing for wins.Round Statistics:
