CRMC PC125GP Round 2 – Croft

Race Report:

Round two of the CRMC Post Classic was held a Croft in North Yorkshire, a circuit that Andy had not visited since 2007. Poor weather had prevented the team testing since the Pembrey round so the Friday test was used to finally locate the running issue that hampered progress at round one and gain some track time to get comfortable with set for racing on Saturday and Sunday.

Practice on Saturday morning was used to run in a piston that had to be fitted after Friday testing, this was not ideal but the team had no option as the piston was damaged and they could not risk running it over the weekend.

Race one started well, Andy was able to gain the lead on lap one, the bike felt good so Andy decided to push on the break away, unfortunately the engine seized forcing Andy to retire at the end of lap one.

With the bike repaired for race two, Andy had to start down the grid because of not posting a fast lap time in race one as this is how the grid is decided for each subsequent race. After getting through to fourth at the lap two Andy was able to set the fastest lap times and catch the lead group of three with just over a lap to go. Andy got through to second half way round the last lap but in an attempt to take the lead lost time and ended the race in fourth place but with the fastest lap and pole position for Sunday’s race.

Sunday brought much improved weather, some set up changes were made to the engine settings to keep the bike running at its best. A good start and a calculated first lap saw Andy lead at the end of lap one, he then pushed for three laps to pull away from the field, in turn taking two seconds off the lap record for the circuit. This allowed Andy to control the gap for the remaining laps and take his first win of the season.

The weekends results maintained andy’s fifth place in the Championship but reduce the gap to the championship leader. The next round is at one of Andy’s favourite circuits, Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire where the team are aiming to reduce the gap in championship points further.
